22nd September 2018
With the company he founded in 2015, Acosta Danza, Carlos Acosta celebrates 30 years on stage as a unique artist. The programme Carlos Acosta – A Celebration will be seen for the very first time in a German-speaking country at Festspielhaus St. Pölten.
The evening opens with Alexis Fernández’ ‘De Punta a Cabo’, to which Debussy’s ‘L’Apres-midi d’un faune’ – performed live by the Tonkunstler Orchestra – provides an exciting contrast in Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s ‘Fauno’. Christopher Bruce has chosen recordings by the Rolling Stones for his creation ‘Rooster’ and the climax of the evening’s four-part programme is George Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ in the version originally choreographed by Carlos Acosta for the Royal Ballet. To the accompaniment of the Tonkunstler conducted by Paul Murphy there is a rare chance to see the Artistic Director himself perform with the ensemble in the role of Escamillo.
